How Google wants to reinvent cloud computing and renew itself in the process

Google is pressing ahead with Cloud Computing. As Senior Vice President, Swiss citizen Urs Hölzle is leading this charge. He doesn’t just want to gain market share but to «create an open standard that defines what Cloud is for the next 20 years», a process that will cause upheaval at Google as well.

The Google story began when the company’s founders – Larry Page and Sergey Brin – moved their project from their digs at Stanford University to a garage in Menlo Park, found their first investors and were able to recruit experienced computer scientists like Urs Hölzle. This was the summer of 1998.
