«I would not have made it but for medication». Such statements are often heard from people who have overcome a severe depression or burnout. Many patients and doctors are convinced of the effect of antidepressants.
Nevertheless, this perception is not in line with what researchers have recently shown in a major review. According to this, medications do not work much better than placebos. Should doctors and patients refrain from prescribing or taking antidepressants as they do not work at all?
